Er, yes. Sorry, I was afflicted by a passing brain fart.

I was never under the illusion that it was a great card, even before the
MRP. However, I really like the flavour of the ability, and I did make
good use of it in the early days, even before there was a Monk
faction. (I've been playing enlightenment decks for a _very_ long time.)

>I'd be curious to know what kind of decks Seikua would go in?

Generally, I used him in enlightenment decks with a focus on dueling. Of
course, after the misprint MRP, he rarely showed up anymore.

Subject: [Brotherhood] Kotei Duelling Deck... Take 2

Hey all,
Thanks for the advice and ideas you all gave,
As a result I made a couple of changes, which do seem to make the deck quite
a bit faster.
I then played it in the tournament I run in Crawley, UK yestereday, and it
seemed to go much better (though it still pains me to have to take out
Tetsuya... I think he's my favourite art work/personality in the game!).

I'd appreciate more help/opinions if you can spare the time. (I'm also keen
to get this list going for a while too :-)

Anyway, the deck is as below, with the following changes.

Restoring the Doji Treasury taken out - appologies to Whitecat, you were
right about monastery, and I should read the Accum Rulings more often
(especially as I judge my tournaments!!).

Monastery taken out - paying 2 gold holdings to get out one was too
inefficient, esp. as Takao xp2 and Tetsuya were the only things in the deck
that cost more than 2 holdings!!.

Tetsuya taken out - it wasn't worth 2 biggies without the Monastery, and
Takao is stronger over all (even if Tetsuya is nicer!!).

Also this allows me to put Shiryo no Tetsuya back in (which is great with
Hoshi Maseru x1, and Takao, and even Gekkai).

Added 3 Merchant Caravans - in place of the 3 dynasty cards I took out.
Again, I think Whitecat (sorry I missed your real name, so I'll have to keep
calling you Whitecat :-) was right. This speeded up the deck more than I'd
expected, and it let me get the Ring of Void out more often/ faster (useful
with Prayer Shrines, H Maseru xp, and especially Enlightened Ruler!).
I'm still weary of Bandit Attacks though.

Also I managed to obtain 2 more Snow Crane Tattoos to replace Strike Without
Striking. This was a much more useful card!!

Overall I came 4th of 9 yesterday.

>House of Tao (+ Hantei Sensei)
>
>Dynasty: 40
>Inheritance
>Death of the Kirin
>Kisada's funeral
>Wisdom Gained

>Enlightened Ruler
>Blessings of Isawa

All the above were generally useful, though Blessings was slightly less so
due to 'Facing your Devils' often being named with Hantei.

>Restoring the Doji Treasury----> Merchant Caravan

>2 Temples of Osano Wo
>1 Temple of Shinsei

Temples of Shinsei definitely slowed down the Spawning Grounds Player
(though it came out after I'd lost to provs!!). It is definitely a stronger
card than Iris festival (in the main game he could only take my last
province with my Kolat Mastered Takao and Yoshun (Mastered to pump Takao!!).
However his Moetechi's and ability to refuse/lose most duels together with
his Shoju Sensei meant that I found it very difficult to win.
Also having Shinsei's Temple generally meant I had less Double Chi peeps
than I generally had with 3 Osano-Wo Temples.
I am therefore considering changing back to 3 of the first, and accepting
loss to any Shadowlands I meet (though I obviously would never concede...
just expect to get pummelled!!).

What do people think??
Perhaps Todo's experience would help (though he may not want to help me kill
Shadowlands :-).

>3 prayer Shrines
>3 Temples To Shinsei
>1 Vows of the Brotherhood

>1 Monastery (only own 1)---> Merchant Caravan

I generally seemed to have enough gold.

>1 Prophets Tower
>1 Fortress of the Dragonfly

These were much more useful than I'd expected (esp. the Fortress!).

>1 Grove of the 5 Masters

This was generally less useful than expected. I'm considering putting in
another Fortress in it's place. These are cumulative right? Opinions?

>3 Gekkai
>3 Shioda
>3 Yoshun
>3 H. Maseru
>3 H. Wayan
>1 H. Maseru exp
>1 H. Wayan exp
>1 Takao exp2

The personality base seemed pretty solid. I wouldn't make any changes :-)

>1 Tetsuya---> Merchant Caravan

>Fate
>Hantei Sensei
>all 5 Rings

I found Ring of Earth better to start with than Ring of Water quite often.
I even considered taking it out, but the touch of having all five rings, and
focus value seems nice to me. Don't know how worthwhile it is as a bluff?
The main reasons for starting RoW are to be able to assign attackers to the
corresponding Duel Bait for the duels I have in hand- Show me your stance,
Test of might, Duel, etc. However, I found myself rarely attacking, rather
than Counter attacking. Also, I have no way to put RoW into play from my
deck, so if I start with that, and then play RoE I have 2 rings in play (for
reasons above).
In fact mine was the only non military deck yesterday, so perhaps RoW might
be necessary against someone who won't attack me??

What do you think?
Should I ever start with RoW? If so, against who??
Should I drop it from my deck?

>3 I. Challenge
>3 I. Art
>3 I. Duel
>2 Test of Might
>3 Show me your Stance
>3 Focus
>3 Chi Strike
>1 Snow Crane Tattoo (only own 1)

>2 Strike Without Striking----> Snow Crane Tattoo

These all seemed useful.
However I sometimes found (esp against Military Crane) that I couldn't duel
him, as he had all 3chi peeps with Kenjutsu School so he would just
react/strike. I beat him 1 game out of 5 in friendlies (it was only ever
close when I started RoE). He had no Kharmics or Poisoned weapons, and was
playing pure military, so I don't know how well to gauge my deck against
'normal' Crane.
Perhaps I'll stick in Bend like a Reed instead of Snow crane (if I can get
any before the Kotei... as I currently own none!!)

>1 Sun in Shadow (ditto)

Again, no other monks or Phoenix, so this may be more useful than it seemed.

>3 Come one at a time
>2 Counter attack
>
>3 The Winds Truth
>3 Faciing your Devils
>2 Purity of Spirit
>1 Revealing the Ancient Wisdom
>2 Dharma Technique
>2 Shame

These were all good, though Revealling was mainly used for focus due to
fewer Double Chi guys than normal.
I some P-kill is definitely needed though vs Shoju Sensei.

So, once again, all help advice you can give this Simple Monk would be
gratefully appreciated (even if I previously told you that you don't get my
deck :-)

Thanks for listening,

Mustafa Bharmal,
A Simple Monk.
