I *really* don't think many people will be using this- if they're scared of
enlightenment (as they should be ) I bet they're going to just hantai for FtH
or I Art. what I reccomend if this is not the case is using forgotten
lesson. It is not only good vs. otomo, but also vs hantai and kuro. it
slows down other enlightenmnet, and take out toshimoko so you can get fire.
If you're using Hammer of earth/ogoko for earth, it takes care of kisada.
I'm sure that there are more uses, but that's all I can think of. overall, a
very strong card.

<<What are the thoughts from the Enlightened Brothers on Otomo Sensei?? How

   Note two things:
Firstly, the player using Otomo Sensei MUST have his stronghold unbowed
to use the ability; it is thus not so frightening as it first looks. Few
Clans can afford to make use of it; Toturi's Army perhaps, Yoritomo's
Alliance maybe, Kosaten Shiro. Most other Clans need either the money their
stronghold can create, or else the abilities on the stronghold itself.
Secondly, it only kills specific card draws - generic card draws are left
entirely alone. While it will kill Walking the Way, or Kaede Sensei [or the
original Brotherhood stronghold], it does nothing against Lessons from Kuro,
or similar draws that don't choose what they get. Fall back slightly from
the deck manipulation, and be less willing to send rings to the discard pile
under the assumption that 'I can get it back later'. In fact, one of the
few Clans that might put this to good use is the Brotherhood itself, to
reclaim enlightenment from the Phoenix FETA decks.

|<snip>|

It doesn't say anything about bowing your stronghold to use the Reaction on
the Sensei. Did I miss something? Thanks.

Carry more shugenja in the deck and use amnesia. I still feel people will
feel that Hantei sensei is superior, but against us with our walk the ways,
refugee of the three sisters, banish all shadows, and I even think this
sensei will effect Imperial Gift and battle at Isawa Palaces.
The shugenja I reccomend are Seppun Kossorri and the Phoenix Water novice
Asako Hosigeru. Use three of the Asako(great defense card as well and off
the box)
Two of the Seppun Kossori is advisable. She has an inate ability and can
produce 2 gold.

Amnesia can take care of all the problem..IT is the best solution that I can
see.
Good luck.
I am also worrired about the cheap Kolat Chambers..Which has a reaction that
reads
Imeediately after a card effect to get an elemental ring from his or her deck
or disacrd pile, bow kolat chambers to discard the ring from play.
Now this damn thing only cost 2 gold so everybody can use it. Now I do not
know why this thing was made, except of course to screw Kaede Sensei people
as well as directly SCREW the older Monk stronghold where we just bowed to
get a ring from our deck after we had accomplished an act to play a ring.
Solution is four things things. Kitsu Kagi's Journal to cancel the action.
Also destruction of the holding with terrains.
Held Terrain a rare.
or Occupied Terrain..Yes folks we actually have a use for this card now..So
sad.
We can take over the holding by duels.
Contested Holding
We can destroy the holding with Night of a Thousand Fires..(Ninja
Action..anybody got a ninja to bow?)

So there you have it.

Enlightnement much harder now.

For the record I pack Amnesia in my deck and Kitsu Kagi's Journal

<<It doesn't say anything about bowing your stronghold to use the Reaction

Unless the ability strictly says otherwise, any ability [not trait, but
ability] printed on a card can only be used if the card is unbowed - even if
the ability does not require the bowing of the stronghold. Remember, Sensei
abilities are considered to be printed on the Stronghold. For example, a
bowed personality cannot use the ability that the Tactician trait allows
them to take, if they are currently bowed. A bowed Den of Mujina cannot
produce Mujina tokens. A bowed stronghold, similarly, does nothing that is
not a trait, yes?
That's why several stronghold abilities actually say that the
PERSONALITIES you control get said abilities [such as the Yogo Towers, or
Kage Sensei], allowing it to be written as a trait... Or can TA's Otosan
Uchi stronghold reduce the cost of followers once it is bowed?

Or, of course, explosives. 8g but no ninja required.

<<Enlightnement much harder now.>>

Again. A year ago, I was VERY proud that I'd accomplished Enlightenment
5 times, and with YA and Crab decks! Now, much less so. You've all already
heard this 'rant' from me, however, so I'll spare you all [grins]. Mind
you, the Contested Holding solution is interesting - the duel could even
snag you the rings of Fire, Void, and Air if you play it right.
In the end, the answer to both this and to Otomo Sensei is to not use
Kaede Sensei and Bonsai Gardens to make life too easy. Play Enlightenment
the 'hard' way - build the deck to be workable without them, and if you see
either of the two cards in question hit the table, grin and bear it. Much
like Finding the Harmony, if you don't actually NEED it, the loss in any
particular game should not hurt too much...

Right now I play a "mostly" clean enlightenment deck- the only questionable
card I use is kaede sensei. Do any of you play a non-kaede deck that wins
often? Please post it. thanks.
